Julie Koenig is an Atlanta-based harpist with repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music. An Ohio native, she started playing the harp professionally with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra as a teenager and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. While residing in Miami, Julie played harp along coastal Florida and performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Florida and the Palm Beach Opera.

As a freelancer throughout Metro Atlanta, Julie is principal harpist of the Georgia Symphony, DeKalb Symphony, and Gwinnett Symphony orchestras. She also subs frequently with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Georgia Philharmonic, Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra, Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Alpharetta Symphony, and Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the orchestras of Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, and Georgia Tech.

Ms. Koenig has backed a wide range of artists including Gregory Alan Isakov, Trisha Yearwood, Ray Charles, Indigo Girls, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Itzhak Perlman, and Yo-Yo Ma. She has also provided music at private events for President Jimmy Carter, Tyler Perry, Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A, Home Depot, Takeoff, and Widespread Panic.

Julie has played harp for thousands of wedding ceremonies as well as countless wedding receptions, church services, orchestral performances and choral concerts, funerals and memorial services, solo and chamber recitals, corporate dinners and grand openings, housewarmings, bridal and baby showers, and many other special occasions. She has been a featured soloist playing concertos by Debussy, Ravel, and Mozart, has appeared on several recordings, and has performed in the European capitals of Rome, Vatican City, London, Dublin, Prague, Vienna, and Paris.

In her spare time, Julie can usually be found walking her golden retriever, attending an Atlanta Braves game, or rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ms. Koenig plays a W&W Venus Diplomat, built in Chicago. Her harp is acoustic but fitted with an electrical pick-up to amplify if needed. The Diplomat is a concert grand pedal harp with 47 strings, ranging nearly seven octaves. It has a dark red mahogany finish and golden fluted column reminiscent of the Edwardian style, and its spruce and maple hardwoods were cut from forests on Mount St. Helens and the Pacific Northwest. It features a Lyon & Healy Style 17 French Renaissance gold soundboard design, making this harp truly one-of-a-kind.

Julie also has a Lyon & Healy Style 23 gold concert grand harp, built in 1955 in Chicago. This quintessential model is considered to be the most recognized harp in the world, depicting Victorian style with intricate carvings of flowers and fleur-de-lis, and is hand-gilded with 23-karat gold.

Sounds great!! - President Jimmy Carter

With Ms. Koenig leading the way on Ravel's "Introduction & Allegro" for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet...the music shimmered exquisitely, thoroughly bewitching. - Pierre Ruhe, ArtsATL review: Cobb Symphony delivers sparkling Ravel

…the huge orchestra; the drawn-out breaths, like a pipe organ; those three harps, given moments of great prominence like visitations from another world…. - Pierre Ruhe, ArtsATL review: Donald Runnicles returns to the ASO with breathtaking Bruckner

Thank you so much for the beautiful music you provided for my son's wedding! To me, music always makes the difference between an event and a wonderful occasion. Your harp playing made their wedding a fantastic memory for all of us and I so much appreciate your talent and artistry. I hope I will have the pleasure of hearing you again someday. - Linda

We both appreciated your willingness to accommodate our requests. I must admit that the moment for me was a little blurry, but I do remember the ambience and magic your talent created. Thank you again for working with us to make our wedding day special! - Anne & Ryan

It was absolutely gorgeous. The music was so amazing. I cried during the music selection appointment and I cried the second I heard the music at the wedding. - Jennifer

Thank you so much for playing the harp at the Lessons & Carols service. It truly added so much to the service and we so appreciate your willingness to share your talent with us. - Elizabeth

Everyone commented on how nice the music was, but most of all we just wanted to thank you for being so easy to work with. - Heather & Ken

Our neighbor said, "I've never heard anything as wonderful as that harp." I'd have to agree. - Mary

We just got back from our honeymoon and I wanted to thank you again for playing at our wedding. I think I was able to quickly wave to you and the next thing I knew, I was walking down the aisle! It was such a lovely ceremony and I'm just thrilled that you were a part of it. I'll always remember that evening we spent choosing the pieces for my wedding day; those songs will always be very special to me. I'm honored to have had the chance to meet you and work with you. Thank you again for sharing your gift with us on our special day. - Kim

I wish that I could play the harp...especially as beautifully as you! - Cindy

Thank you for a job well done. You simply came in, set up, and went to work. I didn't have a minute's worry about the music. How beautiful it was, and so perfect. I appreciate your promptness and professionalism. - Amanda

I loved having you play the harp at the wedding. Now I wish I could go back and sit under those trees and listen to the music you played. I have heard so many nice compliments about you, the beautiful music, and the gorgeous harp. - Gerri

What a perfect evening. What a beautiful memory. I just remember floating down the aisle to your hypnotic, beautiful music. Whenever I remember my wedding, I will always remember your harp and you. Thank you for being such a special part of our wedding. You made my ideal wedding come true. - Mandi
